The Look of Love

Yetty and Charles Arp are not only my grandparents—they’re a living example of high-school love that lasted a lifetime. Both Atlanta natives, I brought them back to where their story first began: The Lovett School. Charlie, two years older and a member of Lovett’s first graduating class, was the captain of the football team when he first noticed Yetty cheering from the sidelines. Their connection carried them through Vanderbilt, into marriage, and eventually into raising a family in Atlanta. Charlie later moved the family to El Paso, Texas, where he served in the Vietnam War as a dentist, before they returned home and raised three daughters who all attended Lovett. As a third-generation Lovett graduate, I deeply admire my grandparents—they’ve shown me, through their own lives, just how enduring and beautiful love can be.
